Duration of the project
2014–2015
Aims
Main aim:
Localize adolescents PA in different environment conditions using GPS devices.
Specific aims:
1. Localize type of environment where adolescents realize PA by GPS data.
2. Compare the volume of PA which was carried out in the respondent neighborhood environment (buffer 1 km) with the volume of PA carried out in a different environment.
3. Compare the volume of PA which was carried out in the respondent school environment
(buffer 1 km) with the volume of PA carried out in a different environment.
4. Identify physical disorders for active transport from GPS device record.
Realization
Regular physical activity (PA) among adolescents has proven a beneficial effect on their current and future health. Numerous surveys point to the trend of the decreasing amount of physical activity. One of the important aspects, that positively and negatively affect the overall physical activity of an individual, are the environmental conditions in which the individual spends time. The main objective of the project is to analyze the strength of the relationship between the structure of physical activity and selected characteristics of the bulit-up environment among 12 -18 year-old individuals in the Czech Republic. The study will be undertaken by at least 200 participants from selected schools in Czech cities. Monitoring of physical activity will be carried out by using internationally standardized questionnaire IPEN Adolescent, and by means of objective measurements using pedometers Yamax SW-700 and ActiGraph accelerometers. The measurement of the PA will include the precise location using GPS devices HOLUX M1000C. Environmental conditions near the place of residence and the school will be obtained by using a questionnaire IPEN Adolescent as well as objectively by using GIS (geographic information systems). All measured values are incorporated into the system PALMS geodatabase suitable for the map formation. The documents will try to advise a communal experience in the field of prevention, health and urban interventions. The study will contribute to the identification of significant correlates of the bulit-up environment in relation to physical activity. In the future, these findings could contribute to an overall increase in PA and at the same time positively affect the level of physical condition and lifestyle of adolescent population. The work will be a part of an international research IPEN adolescent labeled R01 HL111378.
