Duration of the project

2013–2014

Aims

The project aims at analysis of family correlates, school environment and physical activity (PA) of children aged 6-12 and their parents. Partial aim will be to judge the level of weeklong physical activity in children with regard to overweight occurrence and obesity in parents, size of residence, day in a week, and participation in organised physical activity.

Realization

In addressing the proposed project we apply a standardized methodology for objective monitoring of field physical activity based on continuous monitoring of its level using pedometers Yamax. Parents and their children will wear pedometers Yamax SW 200, simple, cheap, and validated tool for evaluation of physical activity. The level of week PA (expressed in number of steps) will be monitored in seven consequent days (except sleep, swimming and personal hygiene) and recorded into recording sheet together with the length of sedentary behaviour. The level of physical weight will be classified on the basis of age, and gender, and from weight and height calculated BMI according to WHO recommendation. Attributes of family environment will be specified using standardised HBSC questionnaire. Obtained results will be analysed with use of statistical software Statistica CZ 10 and IBM SPSS 19.0. From statistical method we assume to use linear and logistic regression, parametric tests (ANOVA, t-test) and non-parametric tests (Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA resp. Man-Whitney test) with regard to appropriate effect size coefficients (d, η2, ω2) and logical significance.
