Duration of the project

2012-2013

Aims

The main objective of the project is to continue in previous project FTK_2011_017 “School related active transport in 15 to 16 years old students”. The program module for INDARES system with a special focus on tracks/trails analysis and means of transport to school was created within this project. The purpose of our present project is to verify the program module in the school practice. We want to describe active transport (AT) on the basis of the results acquired from this module, questionnaire and measuring devices´ data. Furthermore, we want: to characterize AT to-and-from school and compare it to the total amount of PA; to analyze the differences in the AT among girls and boys; to contribute to physically active literacy relating to AT of the students and strengthen the interdisciplinary integration (geography, mathematics, biology). We want to acquire other data describing the level of habitual PA through the INDARES system and the online questionnaires/surveys included within this system.

Realization

The project will be carried out in 4 schools in 2012. Research sample will be made up of 200 students aged 15-18 years. Participating schools will be chosen on purpose. PA will be monitored for one week by using pedometers and accelerometers ActiGraph with a special focus on school-related AT. This measurement will be realized concurrently with data recording to the record sheets. Respondents will record their arrivals and departures to and from school, time, type and duration of PA and physical inactivity (PI). The module of the internet system INDARES will enable immediate feedback about AT to students. The project will follow in previous projects FTK_2010_021 “A school for healthy and physically active lifestyle in 15-16 years old pupils”, FTK_2011_017 “School related active transport in 15 to 16 years old students” and numerous projects of CFKR. Results of the project should contribute to explanation of the character of AT and show its importance in the total amount of PA of adolescents. Newly created program module of the INDARES system should be verified in the school practice. The project will provide new facts/information about AT to experts, schools´ management, teachers and public and it should support the using of the AT by adolescents. It should also contribute to the physically active literacy of the students relating to the AT and strengthen the interdisciplinary integration.
