Duration of the project

2013–2015

Aims

The aim of the project is to create and verify new comprehensive methodology of monitoring of physical and mental strain of adolescents and identify new knowledge and regularities of associations between volume, intensity and structure of school physical activity and physical and mental well-being.

Realization

Increasing demands on education and professional preparation of adolescents are limited by their health, physical and mental condition, inappropriate lifestyle, but also by school environment. Comprehensive and objective facts describing physical and mental strain in adolescents at school can be considered as a research gap. Study will be realized at elementary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic who will give their consent with participation. Annually, 300 participants will be measured. Monitoring will take place in 2–3 day cycles using ActiTrainer accelerometers which monitor physical activity (PA) and heart rate. Further, weekly monitoring of PA and inactivity using pedometers and online tool Indares will take place. Initial emotional and mental capability will be assessed using The Social and Health Assessment questionnaire and PA with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Physical condition will be tested using a set of motor tests. The study will bring new verified research methods and new knowledge for the theory of strain and stress coping in adolescents.
